Online safety tips
- Beware of emails you receive from senders you don’t know. Don’t open any email attachments or click on links until you have verified the sender.
- Control physical access to your computer:
- Log off or lock your workstation whenever you leave your computer.
- Do not leave your computer and digital media in unsecured locations.
- Do not use public computers to access the Internet and perform financial activities (reporting and transacting). Use only known trusted devices for Internet banking activities.
- Select passwords that are difficult for others to guess.
- Tips for password safety:
- Change passwords frequently.
- Use different passwords for different websites.
- Do not base passwords on any personal information, such as your user ID, birthday, telephone number or other personal information that is easily guessed.
- Do not give your passwords to any one.
- Do not save passwords on your computer.
- Do not leave written notes with your password near your machine or in an easy-to-find place.
- Never reveal the One Time Password generated by your token or the serial number stamped on the back.
- Never install software unless you are authorized, and/or know the source.
- Check your web session is secure by looking for the letters “https://” at the beginning of the website URL, which means that the web connection is secure.
- Validate the authenticity of the website by matching the URL to the name in the digital certificate or by validating the extended validation certificate. If they don’t match the user should contact J.P. Morgan immediately after logging off.
- Do NOT open junk, spam, chain mail, or other suspicious email – DELETE immediately.
- Report the loss of your mobile phone immediately to your J.P. Morgan Markets Help Desk center and let them know if your number changes.
- Remove file and printer sharing, especially when your computer is Internet enabled.
- Make regular backups of critical data.

- If you notice suspicious activity relating to J.P. Morgan accounts you access online, promptly contact your J.P. Morgan Markets Help Desk or your J.P. Morgan Markets Client Service Representative.
- Ensure your computer uses the security features provided by your organization, such as virus scanning and firewalls.
- Ensure your anti-virus/anti-spyware software is up-to-date and schedule frequent scans of your computer.
- Be cautious when downloading programs or applications such as Java or ActiveX as they may contain malware that can cause harm to your computer.
- Beware of opening emails received from unknown sources and pay special attention to links and attachments. Do not launch links or open attachments from unknown sources.
- Disable the preview process within your email system, to prevent malware from harming your computer.
- Contact your internal technical support team to verify unused ports on your computer are closed.
Encryption / Browser Check
Encryption is the scrambling of data into a secret code that can be read only by software and a special code to decipher the information — it is unreadable by any computer that does not have the software/code to decipher it. Only your computer and J.P. Morgan Markets have the ability to unlock your code. With J.P. Morgan Markets, all your activity is protected by industry standard security mechanisms. J.P. Morgan Markets will only be available on browsers that can support the required encryption levels.
