As Glasgow Tech Week 2025 unfolded, JPMorganChase proudly played a pivotal role in fostering innovation and collaboration within the tech community. Our Glasgow Technology Centre became a hub of activity, hosting a series of events that brought together industry leaders, tech enthusiasts, students, and entrepreneurs. Here's a recap of the exciting week!
Building resilient engineering teams
The week kicked off with an insightful session on Building Resilient Engineering Teams, led by Douglas Paton and Chris Skaaning, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Leads at JPMorganChase. The session was designed to transform the perception of tech incidents and support tickets from setbacks to opportunities for growth. Attendees explored how SRE practices can revolutionize engineering culture, focusing on reliability and continuous improvement.
Key topics included the significance of Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) in assessing service health. These tools help teams to prioritize tasks more effectively amidst external pressures. The session also emphasized transparency around incidents and issues, fostering trust with stakeholders and customers. Participants left with a deeper understanding of how embracing feedback can refine processes, enhance services, and cultivate a resilient, customer-centric engineering culture.
“Presenting at Glasgow Tech Week was an exhilarating experience! It was a joy to reconnect with fellow participants after the main event and share insights.” Chris said. “As a participant, I discovered incredible developments happening in and around Glasgow. Attending various events, I was truly impressed by the groundbreaking innovations across diverse industries. The creativity and innovations showcased were nothing short of remarkable!”
Unleashing tech innovation
On Wednesday, our Glasgow Tech Centre’s doors opened once again for a dynamic panel discussion on Unleashing Tech Innovation. Moderated by Asset Wealth Management technologists Stuart Kelly and Peter Kelly, the panellists discussed ways to better define and manage effective ideation, technology innovation, and patents.
“The energy in the room was off the charts as we brought together a vibrant local community of innovators and visionaries. The audience was incredibly engaged, contributing to a lively atmosphere that energized our exploration of ideation and innovation,” Peter expressed. “This event was more than just a conversation about innovation—it was about experiencing it and bringing it to life.”
A highlight of the session for many was hearing about the firm’s Make It Happen initiative, which inspires primary school students to explore technology via app design competitions.
