Ashish Sharma is a PhD student in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington, advised by Prof. Tim Althoff.

His research focuses on how AI can empower humans in real-world tasks, with a special emphasis on its potential impact on human well-being. To this end, he develops human-centered AI systems that can model and support complex human behaviors like empathizing with others or overcoming negative thinking. Also, he investigates ways to design, regulate, and moderate AI systems based on human needs for agency and control.

Ashish’s work has been recognized with a best paper award from The Web Conference (WWW'21) and has been deployed in the real-world by Mental Health America.
