Server Change for Host-to-Host Transmissions

Updated Jan. 19, 2022

We know that using our Host-to-Host services is critical to your business, and that you rely on us as an industry-leading provider of state-of-the-art applications.

As part of our continuous work to improve the products and services we provide, and our strategic investment in infrastructure, the connectivity solution for Host-to-Host file transmissions is changing. This will benefit you in several ways:

  • Improved infrastructure and facilities - to increase capacity, performance and reliability
  • Better resiliency - with the ability to balance and redirect file connectivity traffic as needed ‘behind the scenes’ across multiple data centers in transparent fashion
  • Higher availability - by reducing the number and duration of service interruptions when we install new upgrades or perform required maintenance
  • Improved scalability - to allow us to grow the infrastructure as needed to meet future demand

Files exchanged via J.P. Morgan Host-to-Host will transition to our Managed File Transfer (MFT) application. This means that files we send to you will originate from a new server, and files you send to us must be directed to a new host address. Your technical team must be engaged to make any required changes on your system and to support any required testing.

This is a multi-year event that will ramp up in 2022 and continue through 2023. The timing of your change is dependent on your Host-to-Host configuration. When it is appropriate for you to begin preparing, we’ll contact you directly. A dedicated J.P. Morgan Chase specialist will work with your technical team to help you prepare for and execute this change.

  • If you initiate connections via SFTP to transmissions.jpmorgan.com on port 22
    • You’ll receive a new URL and a new SSH public key for transport session level encryption.
    • If you have strict host checking in place, you will need to make any necessary adjustments to your known hosts configuration.
    • A new J.P. Morgan PGP or X.509 public key will be provided, as necessary, for payload encryption and signature verification.
    • Your current SSH and PGP keys will be transitioned to the new server, whenever possible.
  • If J.P. Morgan pushes files to you via SFTP
    • These files will continue to be delivered via the same proxy servers as they are now.
    • You will be provided with (or your system must accept) a new SSH public key.
    • A new J.P. Morgan PGP or X.509 public key will be provided, as necessary, for signature verification.
    • If you require payload encryption, your current PGP or X.509 public key will be transitioned to the new server, whenever possible.
  • If you initiate connections via FTPS to transmissions.jpmorgan.com on port 21
    • You will have the option to change to SFTP protocol, if your system supports it. Otherwise, you will be provided with a new URL and a new SSL certificate for transport session level encryption.
    • A new J.P. Morgan PGP or X.509 public key will be provided, as necessary, for payload encryption and signature verification.
    • Your current SSL and PGP/X.509 keys will be transitioned to the new server, whenever possible.

All changes will be rigorously tested. Note that changes planned for this event are limited to connectivity, encryption and digital signature. Changes to file content are not in scope, so end-to-end back office testing will generally not be required.

When it’s time for your company to prepare for this change, our dedicated specialists will contact you.

The transition to the new platform in 2022 will initially focus on simpler Host-to-Host setups where there are only a few pass-thru files exchanged. For these setups, the changes are expected to have only minimal impact on your technical staff.

In general, if you have complex setups, or if you send mixed payment files through J.P. Morgan Host-to-Host Payments (formerly known as PaySource), your transition will not be scheduled until 2023.  Exceptions to this may arise if other cross-impacting events or changes present an opportunity to accelerate your transition by leveraging your resources to combine the two initiatives. Please make sure your budget and resource plans take this into account.
