Blair MacIntyre, PhD

Head of Immersive Technology and Spatial Computing, Global Technology Applied Research

Dr. Blair MacIntyre is the Head of Immersive Technology and Spatial Computing, Global Technology Applied Research. His team looks at how immersive technologies will impact the company and our customers, and how to use these technologies effectively. His recent research is focused on using social mixed-reality (AR and VR) to support online conferences, meetings and education.

Dr. MacIntyre is a Professor (on leave) in the College of Art, Media, and Design and the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University. Prior to joining Northeastern and J.P. Morgan, he was a Professor of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech for 23 years, where he founded and directed the Augmented Environments Lab's work on AR and VR. His research covered all aspects of these technologies, from creating design and programming tools to exploring AR and VR as a new medium for games, entertainment, education and work. His Argon project in 2008 was one of the first to use the Web for the delivery of AR experiences, and as a Principal Research Scientist at Mozilla from 2016-2020, he led the early design of WebXR. He ran an AR Game Studio and an Experimental Game Studio at Georgia Tech, has worked with many large and small companies, and has been involved in multiple startups.

Dr. MacIntyre has served as General or Program Chair for multiple academic conferences, has received multiple best paper and lasting impact awards for his work, published over 100 academic papers and has two patents.
