The Kleinmans’ Real Estate Journey | Story by J.P. Morgan – Transcript
Josh:
When Jeff and Jody decided to, like, give us all the paperwork from the past years, I'm thinking to myself, “This is insane that I even have to have this stuff.”
[acoustic guitar music]
Jeff:
And in those days, collecting rent was very simple. Someone would write a check, the tenant would put it in the mailbox in the garage. Very archaic. And my wife and I, who had been doing all of the payables and receivables for the buildings, we had the intent of giving it to our next generation.
[upbeat music]
Josh:
When Jeff and Jody decided to, like, give us all the paperwork from the past years, I'm thinking to myself, “This is insane that I even have to have this stuff.” And having that capability with, you know, JPMorgan Chase, and the Story platform, we don't have to go to the buildings to collect rent. We don't have to get on the phone to call somebody. Everything can be done from my laptop, from my phone. It's just easy.
I know that it's safe, I know things are protected, I know it's secure. You know, this is the largest bank in the world, and that helps give confidence to the tenants, to our vendors. They know that it's legitimate.
Jenny:
We have a very close-knit family. So this has kind of just added an extra layer to that. And the fact that I can do it with my first cousin and kind of oversee some of the logistics of it right now has been really great. This kind of gives us one more added layer of, you know, business and the love of our family, and the fact that it was given to us from our grandparents, it’s nice to be able to have that.
Josh:
But my kids see my work is not just at the office; they see that I'm doing work for the good of the family. I'm hopeful at some point, you know, 20 years from now, that we'll be doing this again. And we'll still be using Story. [laughs]
END
Jeff Kleinman and his wife, Jody, had been managing their family’s Los Angeles apartment buildings as a side job for years. They were ready to pass the torch to their next generation, but when they handed over the portfolio’s piles of paperwork, “I’m thinking to myself, this is insane, that I even have to have this stuff,” says Josh Woods, the Kleinmans’ nephew.
The Kleinmans needed to find a way to make managing rent payments easier for their daughter and nephew, who would be running the portfolio while juggling full-time jobs. That’s when they found Story by J.P. Morgan.
“We don’t have to go to the buildings to collect rent. We don’t have to get on the phone to call somebody,” Woods says. “Everything can be done from my laptop, from my phone. It’s just easy.”
Your time is valuable. Process rent payments faster and easier with Story by J.P. Morgan.
