Alternate Methods for Transacting Business with J.P. Morgan

You may choose to use the methods described below to initiate important financial transactions when your primary methods of sending instructions to J.P. Morgan are unavailable. As part of your Business Resiliency planning, you may wish to consider implementing alternative methods for your financial treasury needs to allow greater flexibility and resiliency. Many products or services require advance implementation. You should consult with your own advisors before adopting or revising your resiliency plan (page last updated March 22, 2019).

Automated Clearing House (ACH) Payments/Collections

Submit ACH transactions early using the correct settlement date.

Payments can be submitted via direct transmission and Host-to-Host up to 90 days in advance of the settlement date.
Payments can be submitted via J.P. Morgan Access® up to 60 days in advance of the settlement date.
Payments can be submitted via Chase Connect® up to 360 days in advance of the settlement date.

If you are unable to send ACH files via direct transmission, you can initiate through J.P. Morgan Access.1

Enter transactions manually using either J.P. Morgan Access or Chase Connect.

If you have same-day ACH credit and/or debit origination capabilities, submit ACH files to originate transactions $100,000 or less on a same-day basis, in accordance with earlier cut-off times.

As a last resort for Direct Send and Host-to-Host (and for payroll files only), J.P. Morgan can access one of your previous ACH files and re-process it. Because the date of the old file will indicate the previous settlement date, the file will process and settle at the next available settlement window. This option carries risks to your company. Before you can use this option, you must complete and sign an ACH File Contingency Processing agreement to instruct us to re-use a previous file. J.P. Morgan will not be responsible for losses resulting from the processing of the old file.

For non-critical payments, consider delaying your payments until your access to ACH origination capabilities is restored. You can issue a check to your payee or submit your transaction once we've restored your access to ACH payments, bill payments or payroll payments.

For critical or time-sensitive payments, if same-day ACH cutoffs cannot be met or if transactions are not eligible for same-day settlement, consider initiating a wire transfer to payees.

For critical or time-sensitive collections, ask your payors to make other payment arrangements, such as sending a check or scheduling an electronic payment from their financial institution.

If you have additional questions relating to payment initiation, please contact Chase Customer service at (855) 267-0428.

Real-Time Payments

If you are an existing Real-Time Payments (RTP) client:

For non-critical payments, consider delaying your payments until your RTP payment initiation capabilities are restored. You can send a payment via ACH, issue a check to your payee or submit your transaction once we've restored your access to RTP.

For critical or time-sensitive payments, send payments via same-day ACH if established deadlines can be met. If unable to meet established deadlines for same-day settlement, consider initiating a wire transfer to payees.

Emergency Cash

For emergency cash needs, you may be able to issue a check from your J.P. Morgan account or use a counter withdrawal slip to fulfill your cash needs.

In order to be eligible, your J.P. Morgan account must be enabled for cash (encashment), be an active and funded account, have no cash withdrawal blocks on the account and all signers must be current and on the most recent signature card for the account.1

Check and ACH Fraud Protection Services

If you currently issue checks and utilize the Positive Pay service, you can contact your Customer Service Representative to retrieve your exception items and can contact your internal J.P. Morgan Access system administrator to obtain your pay or return decisions. The default is to return any exceptions unless you have previously instructed us to pay exceptions as your default decision. You should resume uploading check issuance information as soon as we restore your access to Fraud Protection Services.

If you issue checks and use Reverse Positive Pay, you may contact your Customer Service Representative to review or return any items presented. Unless you have specifically set up your default option to return unactioned checks, you don't need to do anything since the default is to pay all checks posted.

If you currently receive ACH debit or credit transactions and utilize ACH Transaction Review, you may contact your Customer Service Representative to review or return any items presented.1
