Global Emerging Markets
J.P. Morgan in Asia makes investments across two business groups:
Global Special Opportunities Group
The Global Special Opportunities Group (GSOG) is a dedicated investing team with a mandate to invest in a broad cross-section of geographies, industry sectors and instrument types. The team consists of professionals across Asia Pacific, with offices in Beijing, Mumbai and Singapore and a head office in Hong Kong.
The team has a long track record of involvement in distressed debt, NPLs and private equity investments. Investments have been made in a variety of sectors, including real estate, transport, agribusiness, alternative energy, healthcare and building materials.
GSOG's investment focus is on junior capital (subordinated debt, private equity, equity with debt structures, mezzanine debt, etc.), with a typical investment size of $50-$100 million and of a 2 to 4 year duration. The group has developed a well-tested, comprehensive due diligence and asset management process to ensure the quality of investments complement J.P. Morgan's name and reputation.
The business is expanding its footprint into the emerging markets of Latin America, Europe and Africa, and in 2007, established a dedicated real estate investment team in Asia Pacific. In 2009, GSOG revived its distressed debt focus by establishing an Impaired Asset team that concentrates on buying corporate paper in stressed situations. The Private Capital Asia (PCA) team is part of GSOG and provides significant capital and resources to the group's base.
