N4 – Geographic Location: the N4 segment shown in the examples above is the field that carries the structured Town/City name and two-letter ISO Country Code for each party. For Agent/Banks, the N4 follows the same BIC and Member ID logic described earlier in this guide; where a valid BIC is provided for the Agent/Bank, Town Name and Country in N4 are not required; where BIC is absent and a Member ID is provided, N4 must include the Country and Town Name in addition to Agent/Bank Name as N102 value; where neither BIC nor Member ID is provided, N4 must include the Agent/Bank name, Town Name, and Country in addition to Agent/ Bank Name as N102 value.
As a generic rule, if any part of the address is provided under either N2 or N3 segments for any party, then Town Name and Country must be provided in N4 segment for that party.
