As demand for AI spikes and geopolitical challenges intensify, nations are increasingly focusing on critical minerals and technological know-how as pivotal tools of influence. For instance, China controls a significant portion of the global critical mineral supply chain via processing and derivative products from raw materials. In contrast, Australia has rich mineral reserves and leads in raw material production, but loses this strategic advantage by not processing materials.

“A new energy security age is here. Nations’ economic futures hinge on how they play the natural resources hand they have been dealt—via policy, investment, and alliances—amid AI-driven demand spikes, conflict shocks, and access to capital. In this era, seeking energy resiliency, if not dominance, is a strategic imperative.”
