Building success: The LeNoble Lumber story

Dan LeNoble:

There's so many things that make me proud about the legacy of LeNoble. LeNoble Lumber was founded in 1965 by my grandfather, Paul LeNoble. It's now grown to over 135 employees and about half a million square feet of space.

Marc Bernstein:

My grandfather was in the lumber business that he started in 1935. My father and Paul LeNoble grew up as if they were brothers. In 1997, we decided to merge our companies and go under the LeNoble name.

Ben Bernstein:

LeNoble Lumber is a preferred vendor for the entertainment business because of our breadth of inventory and our knowledge of what our customers need.

Dan LeNoble:

We've done everything since The Godfather all the way up until modern day stuff like the Law & Order series or Blue Bloods. The business has changed so much. We've expanded into so many more industries, whether it's commercial construction, fine art packing, display companies. When we see an opportunity, we pounce on it.

Ben Bernstein:

J.P. Morgan has helped LeNoble tremendously with our day-to-day operation.

Frank Amarante:

The first thing we do is to listen to the client, understand what their banking needs are, what their challenges are. We evaluate every aspect of the business, the industry. We evaluate risks, and then we decide, okay, this is what we can do for this company.

Ben Bernstein:

J.P. Morgan helped us get creative with our financing and our structure to help to expand our business. It's given us an opportunity to acquire new companies, to expand on our product lines, to expand on our staffing.

Dan LeNoble:

When we need to buy new equipment, they came up with equipment financing loans that made it very simple for us to invest in our company. We had an opportunity to buy boom trucks and they said, "Absolutely. What do you need from us?"

Ben Bernstein:

J.P. Morgan's helped us streamline our business by keeping everything under one platform. It gives us the visibility that we need to make the best decisions we can in real time.

Frank Amarante:

We allow them to make digital payments. We have a corporate card program that allows them to save money on the process. We're also able to take their accounting system to integrate with our platform. That will make it seamless for them to operate their business on a regular basis. And that has allowed LeNoble to continue to expand their operation to grow the business year after year.

Marc Bernstein:

They have exceeded my expectations of what a bank should bring to the table to help a family business.

Dan LeNoble:

I'm working at a six-year-old company that feels brand new. What that means to me is, the future's bright.

Before the lights come up on Broadway or cameras roll in Brooklyn, crews transform empty spaces into worlds that feel real: a living room, a city street, a 1920s boardwalk. Sets go up quickly and have to hold.

You need the right materials to be ready when it matters. You need teams who know their craft and can anticipate what’s next.

That same builder mindset is what it takes to create a business customers trust. For more than 60 years, LeNoble Lumber has helped the entertainment industry and others by doing exactly that: delivering quickly and consistently.

Behind the scenes, the J.P. Morgan Commercial Banking team supports LeNoble with a similar approach—understanding what a business needs to operate and scale, then bringing the right solutions to maximize efficiency as it grows.

The path to growth

See how consultative support, creative financing (including equipment and acquisition loans), and integrated banking solutions helped enable LeNoble Lumber’s expansion.

Morgan provided consultative support, creative financing, including equipment and acquisition loans, and integrated banking solutions to streamline operations and support expansion. Outcome: LeNoble Lumber tripled revenue, expanded its fleet, diversified into new markets, and positioned itself for continued family-led growth.

From film and TV to diversification across industries

LeNoble’s reputation was forged on the sets of New York’s most iconic productions. “We've done everything since the ‘Godfather’ all the way up to modern day stuff like the ‘Law & Order’ series and ‘Blue Bloods,’” said Dan LeNoble, vice president of LeNoble Lumber—and grandson of Paul LeNoble.

That legacy opened doors to new opportunities. “Originally, we worked almost exclusively with the film and TV industry, but now we've expanded into more industries, including commercial construction, fine art packing and display companies,” Dan said. “When we see an opportunity, we pounce on it.”

Growth accelerated in 1997, when two family-run businesses joined forces under the LeNoble name—a move that strengthened both operational excellence and the family values at the heart of the business.

“Originally, we worked almost exclusively with the film and TV industry, but now we've expanded into more industries, including commercial construction, fine art packing and display companies.”

For three generations, family values and a commitment to its people have shaped the company. “We don’t say we have employees. We have over 135 family members who work for us,” Dan said.

The culture is evident in everything from summer jobs in the lumber yard to holiday parties that bring the entire team together.

Marc Bernstein, CEO of LeNoble Lumber, believes that success begins with investing in people. “My favorite part about working at LeNoble is truly the corporate culture. The expectation from everybody is to come to LeNoble and make it a career, not a job,” Marc said. “At the end of the day, everyone cares—that’s what we call our secret sauce.”

This approach has created a workplace where new generations are empowered to move the business forward.

“As a kid, I would come to work with my dad over the summers and work in the yard, helping pull materials—whatever a little kid can do to help around a lumber yard,” said Ben Bernstein, vice president at LeNoble Lumber. Starting with those summers, Ben worked his way up from customer service associate to vice president, focusing on strategic business planning.

“LeNoble Lumber stayed ahead of changes in the industry by constantly reinvesting in technology, in our people and our resources,” Ben said.

Branching out with solutions that scale

As LeNoble expanded beyond its entertainment roots, new challenges required new solutions. Along the way, the J.P. Morgan Commercial Banking team stepped in, offering strategic support and creative financing solutions.

The consultative approach of J.P. Morgan, and dedication to helping LeNoble innovate and adapt, fueled the company’s growth.

Equipment loans, such as financing for 42 new trucks, acquisition financing and flexible capital solutions have all played a role.

“J.P. Morgan helped us get creative with our financing and our structure to help scale our business. It’s given us an opportunity to acquire new companies, expand on our product lines and grow on our staffing,” Ben said.

“When we needed to buy new equipment, J.P. Morgan came up with equipment financing loans that made it simple for us to invest in our company.”
