Cross-border marketplace flows can introduce complexity across onboarding, funding movement, and seller pay-outs—especially when programs expand quickly across geographies. For marketplaces, embedded payments can streamline complex multi-party cross-border transactions, simplify payment operations, and improve the seller experience.
Mercado Libre, the leading e-commerce platform based in Latin America, selected J.P. Morgan Payments to support the continued growth of its Global Selling program, which enables U.S.-based businesses to sell across Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay. By leveraging our Embedded Payments solution, Mercado Libre can streamline cross-border payments and accelerate onboarding to J.P. Morgan Payments deposit services for eligible U.S. sellers as the program continues to scale.
“J.P. Morgan Payments brought the global scale, security and infrastructure we needed to support cross-border fund flows between Latin America and the U.S.,” said Gregorio Bekes, Financial Planning & Treasury Senior Vice President at Mercado Libre. “By creating an integrated experience for onboarding and cross-border payment management within our platform, this collaboration is helping us streamline payment operations and support the continued growth of our Global Selling program.”
Our Embedded Payments solution helps accelerate sellers’ setup for payments and financial services and makes it easier for sellers to receive and manage funds across borders. In an initial pilot, Mercado Libre onboarded U.S. sellers to J.P. Morgan Payments using our embedded Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) capabilities, reducing friction in the financial-services onboarding process and helping speed time to activation. Mercado Libre is also leveraging our ability to receive bulk cross-border payments through ACH payouts infrastructure, helping move marketplace funds from Latin America to U.S. sellers.
"We’re excited to support Mercado Libre’s well-established platform to simplify their client and customer experience with the expertise, security and resilience we are known for,” said Ryan Schmiedl, Global Head of Embedded Finance & Solutions at J.P. Morgan Payments. “Marketplace sellers can keep their whole experience within Mercado Libre’s platform, from opening a bank account to receiving and moving funds from sales proceeds, for a frictionless end-to-end solution.”
