Manuela Veloso, Head of AI Research, Elected to National Academy of Engineering 

Manuela Veloso, Head of AI Research for JPMorgan Chase, was elected to the 2022 class of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Veloso was recognized “for her contributions to artificial intelligence and its applications to robotics and the financial services industry.”

Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. This year’s class is composed of 111 U.S. members and 22 international members, each recognized for outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education.

Veloso received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Upon graduation, she joined the Computer Science Department faculty, where she went on to lead the Machine Learning Department until 2018, when she joined JPMorgan Chase. She is Herbert A. Simon University Professor Emerita at CMU, where she recently spearheaded the JPMorgan Chase & Co. AI Maker Space.
