How to use ACH debit block

ACH Debit Block helps protect your selected accounts from unauthorized ACH debits by enabling you to manage approved payees for authorized ACH debits.

You can enable this feature, add and edit payees, set up an alert1 for when you have pending ACH debit blocks to review, and more—all with J.P. Morgan Online℠. ACH transactions must be decisioned by 9:00 PM ET, otherwise they will be processed per the original instructions.

Here’s how to get started:

  • Sign in to JPMorganOnline.com
  • Select “Security”
  • Under “ACH debit block”, select “Enroll”
  • Select the box for “ACH debit block” under the account(s) you would like to enroll. During account enrollment, the "Manually review ACH debits" feature is enabled by default, allowing you to review and decision transactions before posting, regardless of the payee's status on the allowed list 
  • Select the box of “No service” under the account(s) you do not wish to enroll
    • If you do not select the "No Service" option, all accounts will be activated.
  • Select “Next”
    • Review the terms and conditions, if prompted. If you agree, select “I’ve read and accept the legal agreement.”
    • Select “Next”
  • Review your changes. If everything is accurate, select “Submit”
  • If you were not previously the system admin on your account, review the pop up “Are you sure you want to enroll in Fraud Protection?” and select “Cancel” or “OK”
  • A confirmation page will be displayed
    • Note: Once enrolled, ACH debits are blocked from the enrolled accounts. To allow ACH debits from these accounts, you will need to add Payee IDs to the ‘Allowed Payees’ list so your payments will process

If you previously had ACH debit block on this account, or on another account, previously blocked ACH debits will automatically populate in the ACH Debit Block Reports screen within one business day of your re-enrolling in ACH debit block. You will be able to select the payees from those previously blocked ACH debits for this account.

  • Sign in to JPMorganOnline.com
  • Select “Security”
  • Under “ACH debit block”, select “Manage allowed payees”
  • Select “Add payee”
  • To add payees from a list of those that have previously been blocked:
    • Choose "Add by ACH debit report"
    • Review the list of previously-blocked ACH debits from the past 6 months
    • Select "Allow payee" next to the payee(s) you wish to allow
  • To manually add allowed payees:
    • Choose "Add manually"
    • Enter the “Payee ID” and “Payee name”
      • Please obtain these details from the vendor. You will only see the Payee ID when the first ACH Debit Block rejection occurs the ID is added to the ACH Debit Block report.
    • Select the “Pay-from account” dropdown, and choose an account
    • Optionally enter an “Amount limit” (a maximum dollar amount that this payee can debit)
      • Note: If a limit is provided, ACH debits will be allowed from that payee up to and including the amount entered. Anything over that amount will be blocked (unless the account is enrolled in ACH debit block positive pay and you or an authorized sub-user choose to allow the transaction after the review)
    • Select "Next"
    • If everything looks accurate, select "Submit"

You can change your allowed payees at any time.

  • Sign in to JPMorganOnline.com
  • Select “Security”
  • Under “ACH debit block”, select “Manage allowed payees”
  • Select the payee you wish to edit
    • Select "Block payee". Note: If the payee has been allowed in multiple accounts it will need to be blocked in each account
    • You can return to these steps to allow previously blocked payees as well

  • Sign in to JPMorganOnline.com
  • Select the “person” icon on the top right
  • Select “Alerts”
  • Select “Choose alerts”
  • Choose the account for which you’d like to enable ACH debit block alerts from the dropdown
  • Select “Protection and security”
  • Locate “ACH debits are ready to review”
  • Select the delivery method for this alert
  • Select “Save”
    • Note: For authorized sub-users to receive these alerts, they must be entitled to ACH debit block on the account and subscribe to the alerts themselves via the steps above

Check Protection Services or "Positive Pay Service" is available for JPMorgan Classic Business Checking and Commercial Checking accounts.
