Connecting your J.P. Morgan accounts securely: control what you share and with whom

Using technology to help keep your data safe

You may want to connect your J.P. Morgan accounts to apps or companies for use with budgeting, accounting and tax preparation, or to send money to family and friends.

That’s why we built a secure way for you to connect your J.P. Morgan accounts and share your data. Our Application Programming Interface (API) lets you share specific account information from only the accounts that you choose. We also give you ongoing visibility and control over which apps or companies can access your data. And you don’t have to give out your J.P. Morgan username and password to connect your accounts.

How our secure API works

  • true

    1. Sign in directly to J.P. Morgan OnlineSM

Once an app or company has moved to the secure API, they’ll show you a secure J.P. Morgan window that allows you to enter your J.P. Morgan username and password directly with us. You don’t give them your username and password.

    2. Choose which accounts they can access

After you sign in to J.P. Morgan, we’ll tell you the kind of data we'll share, so you can make an informed choice. You can also choose which of your accounts you want to connect. For example, you could decide to share information from your checking account, but not from your daughter’s college checking account.

    3. Remove access whenever you want

You can shut off access for specific apps or companies whenever you like by going to the Security Center page on J.P. Morgan Online or the J.P. Morgan Mobile® app.

Security Center

The Security Center gives you crucial security information about your accounts. The “Linked apps and websites” page shows you the accounts you’ve given apps or companies permission to access. It also gives you the power to remove their access at any time.

To use this feature, sign in to your account on the J.P. Morgan Mobile app, go to Settings, then choose Security center.

There, you will find the option to review your linked apps and websites. On J.P. Morgan Online, go to Security & privacy and you’ll see the Security Center.

Frequently Asked Questions

We want you to safely connect your accounts to the apps or companies that you choose. Our secure API lets you choose the accounts you share. And you can use J.P. Morgan Online or the J.P. Morgan Mobile app to check who has access to that information and to stop sharing it at any time.

To protect your privacy and data, we won’t let them access your data because they didn’t take the steps needed to connect to our API. Once they do so, they will be able to securely access your data.

If it happens once or twice, it could be a temporary tech issue that’s resolved when you try again later. If it’s a persistent issue, we may be stopping the app or company from accessing your account data until they move to our secure API. We won’t restore access until they take the steps needed to protect the privacy of your data.

We’ve been working on this with apps and companies since 2016, and the secure API now is the only permitted way to connect apps to J.P. Morgan customer accounts. Our secure API is aligned with the Financial Data Exchange standard supported by a large number of banks, aggregators and fintechs.

There are two ways. First, when connecting an app or service to your J.P. Morgan account, you’ll be redirected to J.P. Morgan to sign in to your account to authorize the connection and choose the accounts you'd like to connect. Second, you can sign in J.P. Morgan Online or the J.P. Morgan Mobile app, then go to our “Linked Apps and Websites” feature within Security Center to see a list of all the apps and services that are coming in through our secure API.

Our secure API doesn’t require you to share your J.P. Morgan username and password with another company. The secure API also gives you full control and visibility into the data you choose to share.
