About James

James Minchello is a Managing Director and Wealth Partner with J.P. Morgan Wealth Management. As the founding member of The Minchello Group, he spearheads the delivery of comprehensive asset management services to provide the skilled advice, personalized attention and dedicated care for which the team is known. Over the course of his distinguished career, Jim has earned highly recognized industry designations. Most recently, he was named one of Forbes’ Best-In-State Wealth Advisors (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021).1

With nearly 30 years of capital markets experience, Jim leads the private equity and venture services effort for J.P. Morgan Wealth Management. He has extensive experience in restricted stock sales and the design of exit strategies for venture capital, buyout funds and other large holders of securities. As a natural extension of his practice, Jim serves the personal and sophisticated wealth management needs of the private equity community, offering deep capabilities to address the complexities of liquidity management and diversification of concentrated positions. He has built a reputation for his solution orientation, and he exercises a distinctive command of the development of tailored investment management portfolios, financial planning ideas and wealth transfer strategies.

Jim is a Portfolio Manager in the J.P. Morgan Wealth Management’ Portfolio Manager Program, where he stands among a select group of advisors who undergo a screening process to manage discretionary client assets, and are subject to ongoing quantitative and qualitative reviews to assess each advisor’s investment strategy. These capabilities elevate and differentiate his wealth management guidance, and he draws on this knowledge and background to inform his client-driven process.

Prior to joining J.P. Morgan, Jim was a Managing Director at Citi Smith Barney, where he headed the Venture Services Group and provided institutional coverage for major organizations. He held comparable roles at Banc of America Securities, Lehman Brothers and Kidder, Peabody & Co.

Jim holds a B.S. in Accounting from Norwich University and has two graduate degrees—an M.B.A. from the University of Wyoming and an M.S. from the Air Force Institute of Technology. Formerly, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force.

Jim and his wife live in Boston. They have two children and one precious granddaughter

1. The Forbes ranking of Best-In-State Wealth Advisors, developed by SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative criteria, mostly gained through telephone and in-person due diligence interviews, and quantitative data. Those advisors that are considered have a minimum of seven years’ experience, and the algorithm weights factors like revenue trends, assets under management, compliance records, industry experience and those that encompass best practices in their practices and approach to working with clients. Portfolio performance is not a criterion due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. Neither Forbes nor SHOOK receives a fee in exchange for rankings. Awards or rankings are not indicative of future success or results.
