Beginning January 31, 2012, Bahrain requires the use of an international bank account number (IBAN) on all payments/transfers to and from Bahrain regardless of currency.
The official website of the Central Bank of Bahrain states:
"Retail banks will start issuing IBANs to customers from 1st September, 2011. Banks and customers are required to use IBAN in making the following payments from 31st January, 2012:
Failure to provide an IBAN may result in that payment being rejected, delayed or incurring additional charges.
