Charles M. and Mary D. Grant Foundation
Guidelines
The Charles M. and Mary D. Grant Foundation was created in 1967 upon Mrs. Grant’s death. The Foundation primarily supports organizations located or working in the southeast region of the United States.
Please note: Beginning with the 2023 grant cycle, the Foundation will move to an invite only application process.
Funding Interests:
Community and economic development, health and human services, environment and education. The Foundation prioritizes requests from organizations that are having a broad impact on the Southeastern United States vs. a singular community. A portion of the budget is directed to organizations serving as umbrella organizations or technical assistance providers for the nonprofit sector.
Geographic Focus:
Southeast United States (Including programs serving KY, WV, VA, TN, NC, AR, LA, MS, AL, GA, SC, and FL.)
Restrictions:
No grants are made to individuals or for loans. A minimum of three years must elapse between grant awards.
Eligibility:
Organizations must be classified as tax-exempt under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service tax code.
Grant Cycle:
Proposals are due April 30, and grants are made in September.
Type of Support:
Primarily project support, although the Foundation from time to time considers operating support proposals from organizations with budgets of less than $1 million.

Application
Please include the following items in your organization’s request:
1. Proposal (maximum of three pages) which includes:
a. Brief overview of the organization, including key target populations, numbers served, geographic scope, key accomplishments in the previous year)
b. Description of the project for which you are seeking support, including:
i. The issue or need you are addressing
ii. What you hope to accomplish (outputs/outcomes)
iii. How you intend to accomplish the above and a timeline for these activities
iv. Brief bios of key staff engaged in the project, as well as a brief explanation of the roles of partners on the project (if applicable)
2. Project budget
a. if it is a two-year request, please include a two-year projected budget
b. include a list of foundation, corporate and other support applied to the project budget
3. Current fiscal year organizational budget
a. also include a projected budget for upcoming year (if available)
b. indicate if the organization has an endowment
i. quote the most recent value of the corpus
ii. indicate if the funds are permanently restricted or board restricted
4. List of foundation and corporate supporters
a. include a list of funders for the current fiscal year
b. also provide a list from the most recently completed fiscal year
c. include foundation and corporation names and amounts
