LONDON: Investors still buying Americas on J.P. Morgan platform, but income funds moving up the rankings for third-party funds

Nov 06, 2012

London, 6 November 2012: The latest monthly sales figures from J.P. Morgan Asset Management's online investment platform, WealthManager+, show that as America heads to the polls, U.S. funds are still the most popular with U.K. investors.

The platform offers funds and investment trusts from J.P. Morgan Asset Management and more than 25 external managers, which investors can hold in an Investment Account, Individual Savings Account (ISA), Junior ISA or Self Invested Personal Pension (SIPP).

As was the case in September, figures for overall net sales in October 2012 showed four out of the top five funds are invested in the Americas, with JPM UK Dynamic the only exception. Looking at third-party funds only, three out of the top five are U.S. or Latin American funds, with most of the rest of the top 10 being income focused. Looking at J.P. Morgan Asset Management funds only, there is more of a mix, with JPM UK Dynamic, the Mercantile Investment Trust and JPMorgan European (Growth) investment trust also making the top five. Seven of the top 10 J.P. Morgan Asset Management funds and five of the overall top 10 in October were investment trusts.

Keith Evins, Head of U.K. Funds Marketing at J.P. Morgan Asset Management, said: "Regardless of the uncertainty surrounding the U.S. election and worries over the potential 'fiscal cliff,' investors on our WealthManager+ online platform continue to favour the U.S. This view is backed up by our Strategy team, who believe that whatever challenges face America, the short-term market outlook there is still better than it is here in Europe. However, the continued low-rate environment is evidently driving interest in income funds, which are more prominent among this month's third-party net sales than they were last month. "
