In August, J.P. Morgan became the lead sponsor of Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR), a brand new sailing team competing in the 2012/13 America’s Cup World Series (ACWS). The ACWS involves six regattas around the globe with 11 nations competing in AC 45-foot multi-hulls.

The first regatta of the ACWS Series took place August 21–26, in San Francisco, host city of the 2013 America’s Cup, with Team J.P. Morgan BAR finishing sixth in the final fleet race.

J.P. Morgan’s ties to sailing date back to 1882, when J. Pierpont Morgan bought the first of a series of four steam yachts, named Corsair. Over the years, Morgan’s fleet of Corsairs hosted business and political leaders from around the world.

The firm’s latest sponsorship extends the partnership with Ainslie that began back in 2007. During that time, Ainslie has added two Finn World Championships to his tally and two Olympic gold medals.

Upcoming America’s Cup World Series events:

  • October 2–7, 2012, San Francisco
  • April 16–21, 2013, Venice
  • May 14–19, 2013, Naples
