About Dubai Duty Free
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships launched as an ATP Men’s event in 1993. Since that beginning twenty five years ago, the Championship has continued to go from strength to strength. The WTA Women’s tournament was added to the program in 2001. In 2001 the ATP upgraded the tournament from a 250 level to a more prestigious 500 level tournament and in 2009 the Dubai WTA week became one of the top Premier events on the WTA calendar. The roll call of players in both men’s and women’s tournaments reads like a “who’s who” of tennis stars. The tournament takes place under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai.
