J.P. Morgan Australia supports non-profit organization CareerTrackers

Sydney — J.P. Morgan has established a partnership with CareerTrackers, a national non-profit organisation in Australia that creates private sector internship opportunities for Indigenous university students, to expand its capacity to provide employment opportunities for an additional 125 participants over the course of this financial year, taking the total to 575 students.

CareerTrackers recruits pre-professional Indigenous university students and connects them with private sector employers to participate in a multi-year paid internship. The organisation works with 86 employers and 37 universities across Australia.

“Participants in the CareerTrackers programme receive year-round support, mentoring and guidance and we believe this will help to ensure they are successful in their studies and when they join the workforce,” said Rob Priestley, chief executive officer, J.P. Morgan Australia and New Zealand.

J.P. Morgan’s funding increases CareerTrackers’ capacity to recruit an additional 125 participants to receive career counselling and training to attain internships, continuing the firm’s commitment to workforce readiness and helping underserved youth obtain the skills necessary to build lasting careers.

“There are less than 12,000 Indigenous university students enrolled throughout Australia. On average 62 per cent of Indigenous students fail to complete their course compared to 30 per cent of their non-Indigenous peers,” said Michael Combs, founder and chief executive officer, CareerTrackers.

“Our program is designed to meaningfully improve the course completion rates of Indigenous students and prepare students for leadership in the workplace and the community.

“We are excited about this partnership as it creates the ability for us to add capacity to increase the number of participants this year by a further 125 students,” he said.

One of CareerTrackers’ main aims is to create private sector career pathways, exposing Indigenous Australians to career opportunities that have traditionally been unknown or inaccessible.

Students perform their internship with a sponsoring company with the aim of gaining full-time employment upon completion of their degree program.
