J.P. Morgan’s Give-It-Away campaign selects e.quinox as spring donation recipient

Jun 15, 2011

J.P. Morgan’s global Give-It-Away campaign offers students the opportunity to vote for a non-profit organization to receive a charitable donation as an alternative to getting traditional giveaways at campus recruiting events. The Give-It-Away program includes two annual donations: a $25,000 holiday donation which was given out to Un Techo para mi Pais this year and a $50,000 spring donation. Based on the 2010–2011 votes, students selected e.quinox to receive J.P. Morgan’s $50,000 Give-It-Away spring global donation.

E.quinox is a non-profit, humanitarian student-led project that works to bring cost-effective renewable energy to developing countries. The organization strongly believes that technology can be a solution to address many of the problems faced today and provides communities with the means to help themselves.

“We are deeply honored and thankful to be awarded the spring donation of $50,000 from J.P. Morgan’s Give-It-Away competition. It has been a difficult win, but this donation will go a long way in delivering renewable energy to rural communities in Rwanda, Tanzania and other developing countries. We believe the provision of electricity via cost-effective and financially sustainable means will empower rural communities to strive towards a better quality of life, education, healthcare and other positive knock-on effects. J.P. Morgan’s generous donation will allow e.quinox to not only electrify more communities, but to develop the blueprint for sustainable electrification that can be replicated throughout the developing world.”
— Daniel Choudhury, Vice Chairman, Head of Information & Marketing, e.quinox

E.quinox intends to use J.P. Morgan’s Give-It-Away contribution to implement numerous energy kiosks over the next few years. They will explore sources of energy beyond solar, in hydro-based energy kiosks and in further refining their business model to take a step closer to financial sustainability.
