Middle East & North Africa
Across the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Levant region and North Africa, J.P. Morgan maintains key relationships with governments and top financial and corporate institutions. The firm’s presence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) dates back to the 1930s, when J.P. Morgan and Chase Manhattan helped U.S.-based oil companies with their operations in Saudi Arabia.
Former Chase Manhattan Chairman David Rockefeller was closely involved in reforming Saudi finance as one of the founders of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in the 1950s. In 1956, The Chase Manhattan Bank opened an office in Beirut, Lebanon. The firm opened an office in Bahrain in 1972, followed by Cairo in 1975, Riyadh in 2006, Dubai in 2007, Abu Dhabi in 2010 and Doha in 2011.
